I have a 2001 road * 1600. It has Cobra Slash cut slip on mufflers on it, stock air cleaner. On one of the mufflers, right behind where it slips on the front pipe, it is turning gold (aft cylinder). what causes this? and also, i do not know if the bike has been jetted when these were put on. it pops and spits when you let off the gas, so i assume it is running lean. any tips on this matter would help out. thanks in advance.

I've had F.I. too long to comment on the jetting. Jug huggers on my RS Warrior started turning a slight gold tint after I made the fuel mixture richer. So I backed both cylinders down a notch and it did not get any worse. From that experience I'd say you may be running on the rich side.

another thought

Probably not the case but some other possibilities. Don't use premium gas in a bike that calls for reguler. Don't wax the exhaust where it gets hot. Don't let it idle for really long periods of time.

well, i just did the simple delete of the AIS system. rerouted the hoses and plugged the vacuum line. when i get time, maybe winter, i will do the full removal. The delete worked well, reduced 90% of the popping noise i was hearing. thanks for the tips guys.
