I hope all are well. I recently picked up a 2003 Vstar 1100 classic that was listed as a custom. Since I got it home I've had nothing but problems. Had to put a new stereo on it due to the old one being totally shot, buttons not working and the face plate shorting out at random. Since doing that, I now have a fuel/oil leak and it's idled too low to leave it idle for warm up and so on, and the charging system isn't working. I even dissconected the stereo and still can't keep a charge. I love the bike though so I completely want to keep and fix her up. She's perfect for me, and that's something I thought I'd never say being a Harley man for all of my life lol.

To me bikes are like women. You may have a preference. But, they all fun to ride and have a special place in your heart.

Welcome from Houston, Texas. For the charging issue here is a good thread.

http://www.starbikeforums.com/forums/18-engine-work/110138-battery-problem.html?highlight=Charging

If this doesn't help post issues in correct thread and you will get some great advice.

For the idle follow this link.

For the oil or gas leak, clean bike really good to find out exactly where it's coming from. Then post and someone will chime in.

Ride often and safe.

sounds like you have a couple issues to work out.

For the charging system, if you put a volt meter across the battery it should read around 12V with the engine off. When you start the bike it should come up higher: 12.5... 12.7.... 13.0 V esp if you rev the engine a bit.

If it does not come up you have a problem with the charging system.

If it does come up, but your battery keeps going dead, your battery is old and expired.

Ditto Lesblank on washing the engine down good, then seeing where the oil is coming from. A common ooze spot is the valve adjustment tappet covers (o rings) or the crank case vent tube up to the air box.
If the bike is not leaving a puddle on the floor its ok to ride it, just keep an eye on the oil level.

when you start the bike pull the choke all the way out, and as soon as it starts push it back in one or two clicks. Dont let the bike sit there running on the choke, check your lights and brakes and ride off. About a half mile down the road push the choke all the way in. After about 5 miles or more you can set the idle speed if you think its low, but dont worry about the idle speed when the engine is stone cold.

These are very reliable bikes, usually when something goes wrong its a simple fix, like a 5 year old battery or simple gasket replacements.

Something you may want to look into .... Depending on how long it sat, if at all. If it did -- You may want to drain the old gas. And Take the petcock off and look at it. Is it clogged? Is it rust colored? What does the inside of the tank look like? Crap in the tank can cause issues if not rectified. This most likely has nothing to do at all with your current issues. More of an FYI.
