For those choosing to try something other than a high moly lube. Please take very detailed pictures of your looking new gears. Run the standard lube for a full tire change or two, 20 to 40k miles. Then take pictures of them and post on this thread, yes, it will still be here, so we can share this info. Another great things about forums, the experience of others posted in threads don't disappear. But, before you do, did you read the Yamaha Vstar 650 Supplemental Repair Manual? This was realeased to enhance the standard repair manual.

That is 3% Moly grease. Not Moly 60 paste.
True, but was changed from lithium grease to moly grease in supplement manual when bikes started having spline issues. The recommendations to a moly paste from riders comes from first hand experience. Is moly paste right? Don't know. But never read about failure when using it.
