hi, I'm new here, and have some questions regarding a 2000? model 1100 Star motorcycle I've been offered by my uncle. Since it's a Yamaha, I know it should be a pretty good bike, and given my prior experiences with this brand of bikes, it should be fairly well engineered. Are there any shortcomings I should be aware of ? Reliability issues ? This is an unwrecked, clean history, bike from my uncle, so it is desirable. He says he'll sell it to me underbook value too. He's a thorough guy, and takes care of his stuff, so I trust this deal totally. May be one of the best bikes I've ever owned :D , I still need to check the book on it but it will be a good deal, I'm sure... I wanted another Hardly Ableson, but for the money, I proly can't go wrong with this one. Plus , I gotta pay a crapload of TAXES to this bullcrap liberal gov't, and also to my femocrat state gov't. , so I can't afford to buy an AMERICAN made POS Harley anyway !!! sorry, just venting , a lil bit... man, I'm pissed about the taxes I/we pay !! When the heck are WE THE PEOPLE gonna fix this ? I'm gonna be riding this bike to work , to save on FUEL COSTS ! $5/gal ?!?!? thanx, for your insights on my future bike purchase! and reading my ranting bs !

So you rant right off the bat eh. Well let me be the first to inform you on the book of newb. It is written in said book that all newbs shall post pics of their ride, tell the forumees where they are from and where they ride. It also states that HD bashing is OK.

Welcome to the forum of heckling. Hope you have a thick hide. As for your question on the 1100; go for it. It's one very well built machine.

ooopps ! sorry. we USA folks do need to have a SERIOUS discussion about the direction we are taking. This may not be the correct place for it, but if anyone needs to be reminded, it is those of us who ride. As you proly already know, we are definately "in the crosshairs" !New Gixxer 1Ks now come with cat.converters! WTH?! I was saving for a new RZ750, after they this 2t DI thing down-pat !(ok,maybe not) I'm trying to get some more details on the 1100 now. I'm sellin a 2011 GasGas next week, so I may actually get the Softtail w 1500 miles. I gotta make a choice quick. I'd have money leftover, if I buy my uncles bike. Plus, I trust him explicitly...I'm located in southern MD., approx 35 miles south of DC near Budds Creek MX, and Wicomico Motorsports Park. I grew up in the area, and "cut my teeth" on 2t MX in the late 70s/early 80s. I vintage roadrace RD350/400s w WERA, and enjoy ALL types of motorcycles, racing, and the people who ride them! I travel to race, and for pleasure/work, and look at all aspects of the motorcycle buisiness and the effects of the economy/fuel prices on it.

Sugar Bear, with his finger in his nose past the first knuckle, says:huh?

As to your first post questions: You will not find a better built engine than Yamaha. They are tough and very well built. Only issue I have with the 1100 is the piss poor oil filter set up , which is very easy to fix- ORK.

As for Hardly vs Yamaha? No contest, Yamaha 100% of the time. For reliablity? There again, hands down Yamaha, they been doin good for a long time, Hardly can't say the same:rolleyes:

At least in most all cases with Yamaha, you will be able to get some good riding in before in lays in the shop fixin oil leaks, and Lord know what else;) Ride Safe:cool:

howdy. that's too many protests for one introductions. i'm not aware of any specific problems that a 10 year old 1100 would have over other v star models. as long as you confirm that it runs well now, just keep up the maintenance on it to keep it that way.
