I am the first to admit speeding can be lethal and stupid. Good, that's said and out of the way. :D

In a couple of threads I said I found myself over 100. 105 sustained to be exact, until winds and concrete reminded me I'm mortal in spite of my usual thoughts on the matter.

But I also know I still had throttle left. And the other guy in me is now curious. Does anyone know what the 1700 carbureted models can do?

the 1700's have a higher rev limiter than the 1600's, but I htink your top speed is about 115 before you hit hte limiter. I'd be afraid to do it though. I've had mine up to 100, and the realization that a smallest error, mistake, or accident would be my death.

Triple digit speeds no longer excite me, got over that many years ago. Nor do they frighten me. I've had my RS at 100 just to see what it was like, not uncomfortable at all. The bike and I are very happy at about 85, there's no need for any more.

Question is merely for curiousity's sake. I can always go out on a windless day (and hopefully a State Trooper-less one) and simply crank my bike out until it tops it's own limits. But what made me ask was the amount of throttle left to go and just how much power seemed to be left in the motor and transmission.

I've been a R* driver now for only three months and it has the biggest engine of any bike I've owned. I'm still finding out what I've strapped myself to. :)

@GEZ, I know what you mean. I was cruising at 80 for the longest time before I even realized I had another gear left to go.

And that's when all of this started... o_O

I do a charity ride every year that puts us on Pocono Raceway to go as fast as you want the only rule is that you don't pass the pace car. With my vstar 1100 custom I did 115 and had more to go but fear and common sense held me back my friend was doing 120 with his Stryker I haven't done it with my road star yet. Oh and I never saw the pace car.

Growing up at Fort Benning in Georgia we had a couple of places we could do that. An NHRA drag strip where we could run our stuff until the shows started on Saturdays. And Tri County Raceway, an actual dirt oval where NasCar was getting started and the old moonshiners were moving toward commercial ventures that didn't include gun fire and the sound of Thunder Road playing on AM radios. We ran our dirt bikes there.

If I could find a quarter mile track here, I'd take it down to see what I could get in that length. :)

How fast

I have rejetted and installed a Nemisis aluminum port ed manifold extended 5/8" K&N fitler with Bubs Chambermaids on my 1600. She will run 120. I'm not afraid to take her there if the hwy and the time is right. Hope I didn't just hijack this thread, just thought I'd share.... :)
