I've bought a Vstar 1100 Classic a year ago, and ever since the lightbar never worked. I finally decided to take a look at the wiring. Looking at this picture, the red wire (which i assume is the lightbar wiring) was once connected to the yellow wire (high beams). Upon further inspection the red wire's metal piece is completely severed off from its plastic 'thingy'. How do I correct this issue? How do I connect the red wire again? IMG_20160207_141539.jpg

I don't want to blow a fuse. Anyone with experience with lightbar installation please help me out.

P.S: why would one decide to cut this wire anyways? I don't understand why someone would have the red wire exposed just dangling inside the main headlights. Would this cause a fuse to blow if connected again? If anything I'll bring it to a mechanic.. unless it is an easy fix.

That plastic thingy is a fuse holder. Youu will need to go buy another fuse holder, butt connector, heat shrink, and crimpers. The job is really easy. The wire just hanging is there because the plastic broke not because they cut it. It could blow a fuse if it is the side coming from battery but does not seem like it. Did you follow that red wire to see where it goes? You know what they say about assume. Cut wire next to plastic thingy, strip wire as per butt connector instructions, slide butt connector in and crimp. Slide a piece of heat shrink past the butt connector then put in the wire dide of fuse holder and crimp. Then slide heat shrink over butt connector heat it up and repeat for other side.

Do you know what voltage the fuse holder is and what wire gauge the red wire is?
Should be 12V. The wire size on it I could not tell you but I would go to your auto part store and ask for a mini blade type fuse holder in #12 wire. If you push together and twist your fuse holder you will find a fuse inside and get you a blade type fuse for your new one in the same amperage

red wire go's to the passing lamps if lamps are 35 watt sealed beams they use a 10 amp glass fuse but you can put a plug in type fuse holder in place of the broken one. i can't tell if the the one you have just lost the spring or if it cracked. the hot side of the wire is encased in the plastic holder so it cant short. the bare side has no power in it right now so that can't short ether. passing lamps are supposed to be hooked to low beams but i have mine on the high beams also so they won't run constantly
