I recently purchased a 2001 Vstar 1100 with 870 orginal miles. The bike runs good but I found the two rubber hoses (near the tool holder) were each looped back (in a U shape) and kinked. The metal lines from the heads were connected by a hose in U shape and kinked. Can someone tell me what this is and why it is done. I put them back in line and now the bike pops or cracks when shifting.

Wonder if they are the AIS, air injection system. Many block it off, specially if the exaust or intake has been changed. Air is injected into the exhaust to burn off unburned gas. Often hear people say to much poping with it connected. Not sure if an 2001 has AIS though, just a thought.
