Issue: when I turn the key to on it makes a noise similar to a small compressor near the front of the bike.

I crashed my vstar 650 the other day, with luckily no impact damage to engine/clutch casing that I could see. Took a corner too fast and was sliding on my side. The tank, risers and a bent key was the only damage. After I picked up the bike and turned the key to the on position it made a loud noise. Managed to start it and ride it home no dramas (idles very slightly rougher than usual tho). Since then everytime I turn the key to on I hear this clicking/compressor noise for 5-10 seconds then it goes away. What could it be?

any help would be great cheers

Sounds like the fuel pump, it is a low pressure pump that fills the carb bowls when the key is set to on. It is a ticking sound that lasts for a few seconds depending on how much fuel is in the bowls.
