Looks like it's my turn to organize the reunion ride for me and my old USAF buds. Considering where everybody has to come from Western North Carolina seems to be about as central to everybody as we can hope for. We've already done Deal's Gap and then Asheville and while the riding is awesome I'm thinking we'd like to spread out to some new territory. I guess staying within a hundred miles or so of say...Deal's Gap, what's a good destination to make our base camp? We'd like biker friendly accommodations...doesn't have to be extravagant just decent, within close proximity to a watering hole after the day's riding is through. We usually travel and meet up on a Friday, do rides (we love the twisties) Saturday and Sunday, and then part ways on Monday.
Anybody got a recommendation that fits this order? Tennessee and Alabama are not out of the question, we'll just owe a couple extra rounds to the boys coming from the coast providing they even agree. I appreciate any recommendations y'all might have.

Check out Maggie Valley, you can go all directions from there, Deals Gap, Chimney Rock and highest peak on the Blue Ridge Parkway, Casino not far away either.
Maggie Valley is super biker friendly, also has the motorcycle hall of fame.
Just google it ... Maggie Valley NC.

Pigeon Forge, TN or Gatlinburg, TN they are just a few miles apart and near the Blue Ridge parkway or Cherokee, NC. I love Gatlinburg. Reminds me of the beach life but with mountains. Great food, shopping, shows & beautiful scenery. You could even bring your sticks and play around of golf.

Wherever you stay have fun and ride safe

Totally agree! MV is a great destination...just we've done MV for the last two years and was hoping to do something a little different. There's still plenty of rides we haven't done in the area, was just hoping we could do something a little different for home base.

Yeah those are great spots as well, although for our purposes may be a little touristy if you know what I mean. No wives on spring safari so shopping and shows is looowwww on the list of priorities. Eating, drinking and riding are our top three. Great places for the family though.

I started enjoying life a lot more once I threw those @#$%!$% "sticks" away. My body is more suited to horseshoes.

I'm collecting dust & rust on my sticks. Pitching shoes while cookout with friends is a great pass time for me too.

You right about PF & Gat' being touristy. Beside one of them is in a dry county.

Ever thought about Boone, NC? There Appalachian State University in town so there are watering holes...

Boone is nice, though all those college kids kinda can make us feel old at times. One of the buds I ride with is actually from Boone, although he lives about an hour north now. May be just a tad close for him, considering we're trying to get away for a while.

Actually kicked this around with the group via e-mail this past weekend and it looke like it's going to be Maggie Valley again. It's just about the perfect central location for everybody and of course the riding is still awesome. I was just thinking the group wanted to do something different this year but it appears the location is not quite as important as the fact we all get together and ride. Yeah, I'm okay with that too. I guess now I just need to find a hotel we haven't stayed at, although the last one was pretty nice. Can anybody reccommend a hotel they really liked in MV?

The five guys I'm going to meet...we were all stationed together at our first USAF duty station back in 1979. We all rode then too, go figure.

Redbankman, I just noticed your location. I'm an old Virginia boy, born and bred myself. I grew up in Buckingham County and used to play softball occasionally over South Botson way. Man, that was a looonngg time ago.

Thanks for the inputs everybody.

I went to that museum, it's called wheels through time-all American bad ass bikes, really old ones in there and the coolest part is they all crank and run. Loved it, stopped in on a romantic day trip with my fiancee'. Check out pretty place wedding chapel in Brevard,nc. I haven't been there yet but will make it to it one day. Really cool

If you find yourself in western NC..you gotta stop at Wheels Through Time museum in Maggie Valley.

You can find his show in TV, called Whats in the Barn.
