Hi all. I've been enjoying the forums for a while and thought I would introduce myself.

I picked up a 2006 V-Star 1100 Classic about 3 weeks ago here in St. Louis, MO. It had 4,000 miles on it, but I've added another 1,000 already.

It was pretty "customized" when I got it, so I haven't done much. I did pull the carbs to clean them, but ended up putting in new jets all around in the process (all one step up from stock). I also added a Kuryakyn run-turn-brake controller as I really didn't like the limited visibility from the rear. While working on the wiring, I also re-wired everything from the rear harness back after finding a shorted and melted signal wire. I also added a GMax wireless brake signal unit for the LED in my helmet.

It didn't come with a windshield and I really like the look without it, but the highway wind is starting to take a toll on me. I was lucky to find a Silverado windshield locally off a RoadStar. It came with brackets that won't work, but I'm hoping to make the shield work. Worst case, I only spent $100 on the shield and brackets (including a leather pouch installed on the inside of the shield), and the seller added a factory lightbar (and lights) for free - so I couldn't say no :)

Good thought on the fairing, I'll definitely look into that option.

I didn't have any choices in this ride. A client owed me some $$$$ and after a year of no payment he offered this to settle the bill. Until I arrived with the trailer, I knew nothing about the bike: not the model, make, size or even if it ran. I figured anything was better than nothing - but I was pleasantly surprised.

I'm told the paint work was done by Liquid Illusions here in St. Louis and cost more than I was owed. While I don't think I would have chosen the colors or "Woodland Nymph" airbrushing, the work is amazing and has really grown on me.

Welcome to the 4M!

Nice amount of custom work done to it for sure.

I bet you can find some aftermarket mirrors that can "mirror" the shape of the license plate tail light.

Also, how did you get the full size pic when I only got the thumbnail links to load?

Rob: thanks for the fairing link. It is second on the list after some rear signals. The torpedo bullets are super high quality and look really sleek, but are so tiny I'm always worried about getting hit from behind - which is why I added the wireless LED brake light on my helmet.

I found them on the Motorcycle Superstore web site. Those mirrors would tie in nicely with the look of the tail light.

Also, how did you get the full size pic when I only got the thumbnail links to load?
Pardon my use of highly technical computer wording but I just right click on your picture to get to the picture properties, then highlight the html gobbley-gook, copy it and then paste it after hitting the little "Insert Picture" icon thingy.

Love that paint work! Would almost seem a shame to put side saddles on it if you decided to go on longer rides.

Definitely don't see side bags in my future. I love the lines and colors too much to hide them. More importantly, they would cover the tiny turn signals (and I already worry about being hit from behind when turning).

I've been looking into magnetic tank bags with the thought of putting one on the tank and/or the rear fender if space is needed for a really long ride. Just trying to be sure they won't damage the finish in any way and they will actually hold at highway speeds.

I've also seen one bike that had a left side frame bag mounted just behind the engine/seat but not as far back as a saddle bag. Rider past me and I couldn't safely turn and catch up to ask where he/she got the bag. Looked like a really nice leather briefcase mounted to the bike.

I'll keep looking.
