Hey folks, needed some advice and figured this would be a good place to start. I'm thinking about getting a new breather system for my '06 and I am looking for some pros and cons. There are some pretty outrageous claims for horsepower so if any one has added this particular enhancement to a bike I would like to hear about your experiences.

How much power

Uncle Furry,

I still have stock air flow but I will give you my two cents worth. The "max air kit" seems to be the big one. Or Patric racing free flow kit. You remove your air box and install an air filter on each intake.

You can just remove the top of the air box and leave it off and get some results. Maybe also go to K&N filter. You will need washers to hold the filter in place.

A fellow (The Brain.) posted an very interesting mod here. He used foam to raise the top of the air box gaining a larger opening and some ram air affect. You can read it down the line "Modified stock air box." This seems to have the least increase in intake noise. Yamaha restricts air flow to reduce noise.

To get the full affect you may find you need to also change exhaust. Opening up the intake raises the noise level some maybe a lot.

I read Brains post and I am interested in doing something like that short term. What really got me looking was the air covers that thundermfg had. Got rid of the big triangular box on the right side and cleaned up the left side as well. Looked really sharp and also looked like it might allow more air to the rear cylinder.

Air box

Uncle Furry,

I like the looks of Brains post also. Pretty long post as he evolved into it. In the early posts he talked about some ram air affect of the air comming up and into the air box. Later talked about best performance as speed picks up. Area of the Air box intake increased 25%. You can always go back if not happy.

You would get some ofthe same advantages by leaving the top off the air box and holding in a K&N filter with the screws and washers. Also still able to go back if not happy. More noise here.

You do not loose the triangle box on the right if you have a Liner. The air box is under the tank. The box on the right has Electrical stuff, diodes I think.

Norman;
That really looks good. Saved a bunch.
