just bought a v-star 950 over the weekend (has 1400 miles on it) was wondering is there a way I can avoid the service done at the dealer? Those guys charge a heck of money (300-500 bucks) Dont have that much dough unfortunately?
Please pass on tips for getting the 1st service done inexpensively

Thanks

Welcome to the forum Mett. Is the bike still und... Wait a minute here. You're asking questions and you didn't post a pic or tell us where in Mayland your from. I'm sure you'll get the answer you want, once you post a pic or two of that ride. Our resident 950 guru should be around soon to enlighten you with his vast historical knowledge of all things 950. If he doesn't then we'll wing it :D.

Ride safe and keep it shiny side up.

Here's a couple links to step-by-step videos showing how to do all the main stuff short of pulling the engine . . . . wait a sec, did Corsair say no pics.

Well, I'm sure we'll get you squared away once we see a few pics :D

(OK, I don't have any video links, but we'll still help . . . . once we see those pics).

who the hell is charging $300-$500 for normal service visit?
the main reason to take your bike in for a check-up is because it's time for an oil change. if you can do your own oil changes, then you'll save tons of money. the rest of what they do is pretty much just inspect everything. if you have an owner's manual, it outlines at which intervals everything needs to be inspected or replaced. here's a video that shows you what you need to do to change your oil:

and cookie monster also likes pics as well. feed the monster with some pics.

Welcome to the forum. I hope you enjoy your stay. This is a great place and you can find almost everything needed..
Sounds like you have a really nice bike. Just can't understand what the original owner was thinking when they did the strawberry shortcake airbrush on the tank and fenders. :)
