just found this site, looked pretty cool, so I joined!. I bought a new V-star 950 last spring, and it has been the best purchase I have made. I upgraded from a KZ650, and have over 2000 miles on the v-star throughout the rolling hills of the Fingerlakes region of NY. Only complaint I have about the bike is the seat.

New member here too --- currently I ride a 750 Shadow but considering a move to the V-Star 950 Tourer. I considered the 1300 but thought it might be too big a bike for me. Too bad about the seat .... wonder if it's worth replacing?? My wife did her Masters at Syracuse so we did some touring of the Finger Lakes wineries a few years back ... unfortunately in cars and not bikes. It's beautiful country!

I would definately recommend getting it, you really cant beat it for the price. Its only a 950, but it is by no means underpowered, and walks right by my buddies 883 Sportster, and my cousins 1100 V-star. I was looking at the seat that Pacific Coast Star offers, I'll probably try it out this spring, as they say they give you like 30 days to try it out. I gotta wait till our 3.5 feet of snow melts first! The stock seat is actually really comfortable, if you ride it less than 30 miles at a time, I think it lacks padding. When I bought mine, I looked at the 1300, the 950 and a leftover 07 roadstar. What turned me off the roadstar was it was still carbureted, and the insurance cost was considerably higher. Between the 950, and the 1300 what really sold me was the price, and it looks really good too(I got the red one, non-touring). Actually won a 3rd place trophy in the metric class at a local benefit/poker run/bike show. Only other upgrade I plan on doing is some pipes to make it louder.

Thanks --- good to get your perspective (which sure supports mine) and I might also buy the non-touring addition and then add the windshield and bags separately. The Tourer comes with a passenger back-rest but my wife has her own Buell so we don't ride together and I don't like a back-rest anyway (bad for a defective back because you cannot swing your leg over as easy). I'm sick of having a carb and would like to go FI too.

I can relate to all that snow. Here in eastern Canada we have snow but probably not quite as much as you in NY!
