It was a no go. Guy hid all the damage in the photos. It was going to cost over $2K just to fix what was broke/damaged. I got messages out to 3 other sellers today. No one has responded yet.

This is the one I am hoping the guy answers back soon. He is 2hrs in the opposite direction as the other two. I think its just a classy look with the 2 tone paint and matching seat. If it looks that good in person, I doubt I'd do anything other than put a fairing on it.

Got a whine in the trans that I’m not familiar with. Don’t know if it was always there and I never noticed because of the long shots and the factory pipes are just quieter and now I hear it or what, but it shifts fine

What year is it? There was some issue with early model ('06/'07 I believe) that had a 3rd gear issue.

I would love to get it out in the sunlight for cleaning and pics but it’s raining here for the next 16 hours.

Anyway, the ding he was talking about is just below the pinstripe somewhere around the middle. Under the shop lights, you have to look for it because it’s not obvious. It’s pretty small and not a sharp ding. Light has to hit it just right. I would not have seen it if he wasn’t honest and pointed it out.

It’s otherwise a very clean 17yo bike with under 1,000 miles a year. In general, I can’t stand most red bikes but this is very classy in my opinion. Well done. I paid $5,000. I think it was worth it. Average retail on NADA was $5,100 and KBB was $5,800 on the upper end for a Stratoliner S.

That is a beautiful machine. I don't mean to alarm, but I would pay attention when you get an opportunity to ride more to see if your noise is more centered around 3rd gear or it's just a nature of the beast in general. 3rd hasn't been a problem for a lot of folks, but it's still not out of the question. A quick Google search resulted in some threads among a few different bike forums. One from here popped up as well.

Sounds like a low mileage replacement motor would be cheaper than fixing that. I noticed it as soon as I put power to the ground. Might have just been from sitting all winter. It’s freezing and raining here. It’ll have to wait for tomorrow. I’m 2 miles from an interstate so I’ll be able to give her hell. Where I picked it up was tight winding roads, was dark and I had slightly tinted glasses in an area I wasn’t familiar with. I only got to make sure it shifted. Maybe 150 yards.

Hopefully it's just an anomaly. That's a pretty bike and I know of several folks that have and love their 'liners. But you are correct, should it develop an issue a complete low mileage motor would be the cheaper fix.
