Gotta love a New (to you) bike! I picked up a new Strat in January, still six weeks away from riding season here and I'm chomping at the bit. Happy riding to you sir!

The whine is also in neutral when I’m on the throttle. It’s an engine whine which lead me to believe it’s normal and I just don’t recall ever hearing it before due to straight pipes.

I listened to about a dozen 06 Strats with stock pipes now, it’s definitely a normal sound. The pipes did drown it out. I’m either going to have to get used to it or buy new pipes.

I tried to find something wrong with it but couldn’t. Spot lamps are not working but that’s likely a fuse. Gave it a thorough wipe down, a little saddle soap on the bags to get rid of the water spots. Some of the water spots had been there for quite some time. Even with windshield cleaner, still had to scrub. Took it to the neighbor to critique and he just said, you got yourself a brand new bike. Pipes were too hot to wipe down, had to do that tomorrow. My rag was steaming.

I have an '06 'Liner S identical to your scooter and I love it.
Rode RoadStars for 12 yrs (owned 4 of them a one time) and loved them each and every one. Ran up on the 'Liner 3 yrs ago (w/4600 mi), bought it for $4,900 and smiled all the way home (250 mi trip).
I've since sold all but 1 R/S (kept the Warrior). I sold them to close friends that I ride with regularly, so I still see them from time to time. I miss them all, but that RoadLiner is the Bees Knees ! It's the scooter that the RoadStar "grew to be".
Hope you enjoy yours half as much as I enjoy mine ! :biker2:

Yeah, there’s no replacement for the liners… Road Star will scratch the power itch but it ain’t no liner… I do very much enjoy the Road Star still. Won’t be mine anymore but it’s still in my barn and probably will be for the foreseeable future. I just need to figure out what to do with all this candy paint I’m not using anymore…

Could you share a couple more pics with that fairing from different angles? I have a black one coming that should have been here a couple weeks ago and is lost in Fedex. Hoping to decide on whether or not to order black cherry paint or leave black.

Little brother and I took the new rides for a 150 miles today. Nice day for it. Probably touched 70 degrees briefly. This was his first real ride on the RoadStar 1700. He rode it briefly for 6 miles when I first got it. Now its his.

This 1700 is the biggest bike he had been on yet so he had to flex a little. I just followed along the first time. A little later he said he liked the power. I told him I had never opened it up yet to see what it would do. Of course, now he had to know. 20mph rolling start, go on 3 horns. I rolled back hard, he was pulling away, I was spinning. Back wheel grabbed, I caught up. Hit second and lost traction again but not for as long. I pulled ahead, hit 3rd, it pulled hard and left him in the rear view, then I let off.

After we got to the destination, he said, "you can tell its got 40 some thousand on it." When I asked why, he said he thought, "it was losing power at high RPM". I told him he wasn't loosing power, he was riding a carbureted 1700 running against a fuel injected 1900. It wasn't a fair lineup from the get go. The rest of the ride was good, really good.

I would love to get it out in the sunlight for cleaning and pics but it’s raining here for the next 16 hours.

Anyway, the ding he was talking about is just below the pinstripe somewhere around the middle. Under the shop lights, you have to look for it because it’s not obvious. It’s pretty small and not a sharp ding. Light has to hit it just right. I would not have seen it if he wasn’t honest and pointed it out.

It’s otherwise a very clean 17yo bike with under 1,000 miles a year. In general, I can’t stand most red bikes but this is very classy in my opinion. Well done. I paid $5,000. I think it was worth it. Average retail on NADA was $5,100 and KBB was $5,800 on the upper end for a Stratoliner S.
Lovely looking bike. That’s exactly the same colour scheme as mine. Did you sort transmission noise. I’m no expert but would an oil change make a difference? Enjoy it, It’s minus 7 degrees Celsius here in Scotland so still waiting to get mine out!

I checked the oil, it’s brand new. It’s not the transmission, it’s engine whine.

That’s good then. I do remember the engine had an unusual sound to it when I first got it a couple of years ago but I’ve changed the end can since then. I guess the louder can drowns out the engine and I’ve got used to it.

The fairing that was coming is no longer coming. Turns out the seller was pretty sleazy, reported him to eBay to be dealt with. 2 weeks of being told it shipped, then my order was cancelled. He said he located the “lost shipment” and decided he no longer wanted to sell it to me. He told eBay there was a problem with my address, which our chain of exchanges showed he was lying through his teeth. I spoke with their support, turned the messages over to them. She expressed a ban was in order. Normally, I would just let it go and avoided the seller but this guy pushed some buttons he shouldn’t have. I HATE dishonest people.

New fairing ordered from another vendor. This one is a 4 speaker model. Going to need a marine head unit if someone has a recommendation, would be appreciated. Planning on pairing with either 5” kickers or fosgates.

Driver backrest showed up but it’s cold and I don’t feel like going out. Appears to be a quality quick release backrest from Grasshopper Limited:

bought us both some new half helmets for the commie states. might as well have fun with it right?

Little brother and I have talked for years about video documenting (vlogging) our bike trips. I decided it was time before something happens to one of and can’t ride. I’m pushing 50 and he ain’t far behind. So it’s a thing we are doing now. We’ve both had our own followings in the past, he still does apparently. Guess we are going to consolidate efforts.

Anyway, I bought a DJI Action 3, helmet mount, handlebar mount, 3 battery packs and 2x 256gb cards. Was a tough decision between the Action 3 and the GoPro 11. Thinking about ordering a second camera to get his perspective too. Idk, I’ll have $1000 in cameras if I do. That’s a lot of dough for a hobby camera setup.

That handlebar mount it top notch all metal construction. Ruigpro is what the brand was if anyone is interested. Was like $22, well worth it.

I bought an insurance policy on the camera in the event it flies off at 80mph, costs $19 to replace, up to 3 replacements in 2 years. Works via my phone too… I can see and control it from the phone. This is a screenshot from my phone, viewing the camera pointed at my phone 😂 very cool in deed.

Bought two more phone mounts for gps and camera control. I bought these because it clamps all 4 corners and locks in place. Interstate tested on the VStar. I don’t care for the plastic clamp but it works.

So I paired up the fairing with a Kenwood KMR-M332BT

and four Kicker 2 43DSC504 D-Series 5.25" 200W speakers.
Wheel Automotive tire Tire Tread Hubcap

I’ll see what that sounds like before I go buying an amp. Stereo is only 22 x4 watts RMS and speakers are 50 watts RMS but there are 6-channel pre-amp connections on the back if need.

I wanted an Alpine but couldn’t find one that specified marine grade.
