Hey everybody. I just started riding last September. Started off with the MSF class then got my bike endorsement. I had a friend with a little GZ250 and he let me ride it for several months to make sure I enjoyed riding enough to drop a little coin on my own bike. Only made it about a month and a half before I had to have my own. Something a little bigger too, as riding the GZ was a little like wearing a thong. :D

I wound up with an '02 1100 Silverado. 22k miles, full dress, V&H pipes, and a super-sweet Corbin touring seat w/ driver's backrest.

I've made one long ride (two if you count each way). I live in N. Texas and work in S. Louisiana. Rode the bike home last month on my days off. 650 miles in one day straight through, when my previous longest ride had been 45 miles! 13.5 hours!!! Crap was I sore! I managed to make the return trip in just over 12 hours, so experience is definitely a factor in long rides!

Well, I've been bitten badly by the bike bug. I'm already looking for a cheap 650 to play around with and customize. That'll have to wait though, as my money is going to my Sturgis trip in August. :D Woo hoo!

Here she is:

Nice looking ride! I just started riding too, however, my longest ride has only been about 50 miles both ways. Being that I live in Los Angeles, it shouldn't be surprising that I haven't really ventured anywhere. Traffic can be a major hassle. That hasn't stopped me though, for I ride my bike to and from work, rain or shine! :) I'm planning some trips for the future and there are guys at work who have offered to take me on some nice rides. I don't believe 12 hours is in the works though! You're a better man than I! ;)

Welcome to the forums and it's great to have you as a fellow rider.

Cheers!

you kidding? California is supposed to have tons of great roads. my first major bike trip is being planned from Central Texas to the southern California coast and taking it all the way north before heading back east.

Holy crap that's a LONG ride!!! 650 miles nearly killed me. I hope you've got a month or so to make this trip! I'm wussing out for Sturgis next month. I'm trailering the bike to Cheyenne, and riding from there.

Where in central Texas are you located? I'm in north central. 60 miles S. of Wichita Falls, 75 NW of Ft. Worth.

Okay, true. But, I live in the concrete jungle of Los Angeles. Fighting traffic is a pain and I just started riding in May. There are a few places in Malibu and what not that are good rides, I just haven't ventured that way yet.

Austin,TX, originally from Texarkana,TX. i imagine i can do the trip in 1-2 weeks if i put at least 400 miles on each day. i got no wife and kids to tie me down yet so this is the best chance i have to do some traveling.
Sounds like it will be a fun trip for you. How far North are you planning on riding? N. California, or on up into Oregon and Washington? Coastal Washington is stunningly beautiful.
