Hi hoping I can find some help. I Have a 99 vstar 1100 im trying to bring back to life , was driving it everything was good but the neutral light was staying on through out all the gears, then I pulled up to a red light, went too take off and it died . noticed the neutral light is not coming on anymore and wont start because of it. with the kickstand up and clutch in it turns over strong but no spark. But a few times I was poking at some wires and the neutral light came back! but when i went to start it, it turned over and backfired indicating there was spark again! then the neutral light went back out and wasn't getting any spark again. Has anyone else already dent with this and found out the issue?

I'm going through a similar issue with my 07 1300. I've been able to push start my bike no problem. Sure it gets a little tiring on the legs and arse after a while, but it gets it to start and run. First thing I'm going to do is replace the neutral safety switch, and then probably get the battery tested. Everyone has been saying to follow the wires and check for exposed wires or rubbing spots, so you might want to take a look at that.

i know on my 650 you can unplug the side stand switch and jump the plug and it will be as if the side stand is always up. if it works just change out the switch, the switch is so close to the road that dirt and water causes a failure, the neutral switch itself can fail also. when ether of these switches are closed they create grounds one of them grounds the main relay and the other grounds the relay and the ecm

Thanks yeah i haven't tried the push start its too heavy and was also thinking about the neutral safety switch about to order one today. There is a possibility there is something up with a wire especially because the previous owner messed with it replacing the head light and blinkers .

Thanks, pretty sure the side stand switch is work just like it should because when i put the kick stand up and pull in the clutch it still does turn over, but the neutral safety switch is what im leaning towards that or a messed up wire somewhere due to the previous owner changing the head light and blinkers, but before this happened everything was working just as it should, think ill replace the neutral switch and take it from there.

your bike is 17 years old, were the wires you poked in the neck area. every time you turn the handle bars the wires flex

That sounds like something it could be gonna have to check all the wires. Anyone know what color the neutral light wire is?

Its a light blue one im having the same issue ive replace neutral switch starter starter clutch coils only thing left is the cdi box any help would be greateful
