Hi everyone... I recently purchased a 99' V Star 1100 XVS and i recently swapped engines on it. Before the swap it started right up, i now get no spark. I changed out the CDI with a new Dynatek 3000, I have checked the Stator volts and connection (good), Kick stand switch (good), Clutch switch (good), Handle bar switch (good), Ignition key switch (good), Ignition coils (good), New spark plugs and ignition wires, new and fully charged battery (good)..... It's frustrating not being able to figure this out.

Does anyone have an idea of what to do or look for?

Thanks in advance....

I would suspect the Dynatek 3000 replacing the CDI, simply because the CDI worked before you did the swap.

Is the engine from the same year bike? I have a 650 and not sure if the 1100 followed the same changes over the years, but they did something with the throttle position sensor (on the carbs) on the 650 that shuts off the ignition when the bike thinks it compression braking with the throttle fully off.

If you put a different year engine in the 1999 Vstar 1100, or if the CDI or ECM is mismatched between the bike, the engine, the carbs... something might not be compatible.

BTW forum related note: your post says you have 0 posts. Thats weird!

I am with KCW. I lean towards the Dynatek. However, I would make sure every electrical connection & ground is seated tight. All it takes is one to be off and you are scratching your head.

Yes i changed the CDI because it was old and i suspected it to be bad which it was. But now with the new one i still get nothing to the coils. i have searched almost everywhere for posts or solutions to this and NOTHING.

Thanks for your response, Yes i changed out the CDI because it was the suspicious to me... sure enough it was bad. Now i have the new one and still the motor cranks but no spark.
The motor is from a 2003 but its matched to fit.

thats something to look into - maybe the spark pickup sensors are different from one year engine to the next.
