Hi, I recently got a pristine '03 Vstar 1100 Classic with 12k miles. The bike runs great and I love it. This morning I took off the air-filter cover to see if possibly it had a K&N filter or stock and when I started taking off the screws I noticed a light coating of oil on each screw. When I pulled the cover there was a puddle of clean, but thicker than normal oil pooled at the bottom. It was probably about 2" in diameter. I vaguely remember reading somewhere about this happening, but can't find the post, nor do I remember what the cause and cure were. Can anyone help me please? This is my first real "cruiser" (the closest prior was an '85 V-Max) and I'm loving the riding style after many years of sport tourers and sportbikes. Hopefully its nothing serious. The bike runs great otherwise and the fuel delivery at our 6,000' is spot on. I'm thinking of doing pod-filters or Hypercharger, any recommendations on which would be better? I'm running Bub Big-Willys and love the sound. Thanks in advance for any help I get..Bob.

The oil tank vents into the air duck. There is a rubber line with a plug in it and should be laying in and around the air intake. If you over fill the oil this it where it will go. but some oil will accumulate over time if not drained now and then.;)

Thanks for your reply...I vaguely remember reading that somewhere, so I wasn't totally freaked out when I saw it. I'm betting the thicker consistancy is from a combination of the oil vapors and moisture from heat etc. Now to figure out what to do about the breathing. I'm hesitant to do much as the bike runs so strong now...but know it should run better with a freer breathing intake..

Hello and thanks for your reply. That looks like a neat set-up. What was your impression of the change it made? Is there more "intake" sound? Did you do your mod at the same time you changed pipes? Mine already has the Big Willys.

I'm at 6200' elevation and the bike seems to run a little rich (but not too rich) any guess at the jetting changes the combination of the Bub exhaust and the pod filters will require at my elevation?

At 6200 you're gonna want to step down one step to 147.5 (Mikuni) to make up or the altitude on the pods. I would never go back, this engine loves to breathe. Pulls very strong up to the rev limiter. It's very plug and play use the settings provided in this chart (read the notes for altitude)

The 145s they mentioned in the previous post would be for stock pipes. As you can see from the table for a full system (BUBS) your mains should be 150s before adjusting down one size for altitude.

As far as sound my Cobra Speedster Slashdowns drown out, as I think your BUBs will, any intake sound.
