So while changing cables on my buddies V-Star 1100 we noticed a little puddle of oil in the airbox under the tank. We didn't really think much of it at the time. However upon further inspection of my own 1100 I found that the penetrations through the airbox leading to the carbs themselves were oily and had an oily buildup. When I opened my airbox there was a larger puddle, approximately 4 oz of oil. Which brings me to the question 1. Is oil in the airbox a normal occurrence with these bikes? 2. If so how much is an acceptable amount? 3. How do I keep it from leaking?

Oil blow-by.

Best resolution (permanent fix) is to switch over to POD filters and feed the back into the carbs.

Best performance improvement you find for under $100 (do it yourself) or just buy the chubby POD kit for a little more.

Even with the correct oil level, with the 1100, stock air box, you will have oil in there. Oil change to oil change, there will be some. Rapid decel, makes it suck more but it's the nature of the beast:)
Not to worry;)
