This morning, while riding to work, my bike started to "lurch." It was a bit unstable, as in I thought I might "launch"...probably because I was NOT expecting the lurching! I'm wondering if being low on gas would cause this or should I be looking at something else? My bike does not have an Empty/Full gas gauge, just the tripometer. I usually just fill it up every few days. I'd gone approx. 57 miles since last filling the tank. The bike was warm when this happened, and I was doing about 40-45 mph. I'm a little nervous for the ride home now. Is there something I should look into on the bike this weekend? I'm a newbie, so I apologize if this is a "no-brainier." Also, since I don't have a fuel gauge, is there a good way to tell when I'm getting close to needing to fill?

My bike is a 2006 Yamaha V-Star Classic Silverado.

When the motor stops it's out of gas>:)
I hope you know you have a reserve of gas in the tank, the fuel cock control's it. small end to the front-off,
small end down-on, and small end-up is your reserve gas. play with it wile riding will help you when you need the most...

Yes, I know about the reserve tank. Just wondering if being low on gas would cause the bike to lurch, or if there is something else going on...?

mine started doing just that before the pickup coil failed.. at 57 miles there's no way it's out of fuel.

Thanks for the info. Hasn't done it again. I'll have to keep my eye in it. Didn't think it could be out of gas, but wasn't sure what else it could be!

Thanks, Klurejr! It may be just that...and it hasn't done it again, so I'll just have to keep an eye on it for a while.
