I have an 06 1100 vstar and have been noticing some rusty looking splats on the lower left side cover and have been hearing what sounds like an exhaust leak but couldn't find it. Today I found it, there are 2 chrome tubes coming from the heads and over to the left side. They connect to 2 rubber lines. Does anyone know what these are called and are they for emissions or what are their purpose? The one from the front head has a small spot rusted thru and that is my leak! Thanks in advance.

These sound like the AIS tubes. As long as you have aftermarket exhaust they may be removed and plugged. They just slip into the heads. The vacuum hose to the valve under the lower left hand chrome side cover will have to be removed and plugged also.
The AIS supplies air to the exhaust to burn off any left over fuel before it gets to the mufflers which I believe contain catilytic converters.
Hope this helps.

You can also get a rubber cap for the rear intake where the vacuum line connects and remove this too. I just have both intakes capped makes it easy to sync the carbs. just pop the two covers off and connect. I also removed the pump too. Here's a link to the removal instructions'
