After hours of searching for new wheel ideas, I ran across an image of an expensive set of black spoke rims. It made me think...has anyone ever powdercoated or painted their spokes? Is it easy or is there a lot of prep work? Can it be done with the tires on? I have a midnight custom so it already has a good bit more black on than most. Thoughts?

For sure the tire would have to come off. I work at a shop that we do send out stuff to be powder coated, there is prep work to the raw aluminum.

Might be easier to just buy black spokes... they must be out there somewhere :)

I had my wheels powder coated. The wheel was still assembled (tire removed of course). Originally I wanted red spokes with a black wheel rim. A local place (woody's wheels) wanted almost $600 a wheel to tear them down, powder coat new spokes red/rim black and reassemble. So for $100 a wheel I had the wheels powder coated as 1 piece and figured I should never have to tighten spokes on these wheels......lol Bottom line is anything can be done, just depends on how deep your wallet is.
