I have been out on my 03' Vstar 1100 twice this year and both times the rear brakes have just locked up. I could start to feel the drag while riding and smell overheated pads. Once I pull over and stomp on the brake lever a few times, they seem to release. However, the last time I was out and at highway speed, they completely locked up and I went into a 20 yard power skid!!! I was hoping that it was just because the bike sat over the winter and maybe the caliper was just a little sticky but that last time scared the s$%t out of me. I searched this problem in the forum but haven't been able to find any exact situations such as this. Any suggestions as to what is causing this would be greatly appreciated.

Most likely you have a bad caliper.. You could also have something in the brake line, but I'd lean towards the caliper failing..
