I have an 05 VStar 1100 and my key was stolen. I'm told I can remove the cylindar and take it in to be rekeyed. How difficult is that and do I need a special tool? Thanks to the Forum in advance.

whats up not sure on 1100 if ur ignition is above tank or the side either way at the base of the ignition housing are two hex head screws that go into the neck of the frame. they come from yamaha glazed so u just cant unscrew them. you need to remove the glaze in order to use an allen key or wrench. you can do that by heating very carefull the screw heads and picking out glaze but there are alot of wires if you melt one your screwed. so heat with propane or mapp gas the end of the allen key on the long side good and put it in screw for a sec and pick out the glaze repeat until u get it all out. once disconnected off frame the underside of the ignition where harness enters will have a #1 philips brass screw remove it and the cirular white plastic portion of the ignition harness. then any locksmith should be less then $30 to make key. good luck if u need help or whatever im joe10308 nice to meet you be safe
