Belt

Mark,

The belt will probably last 100,000 miles but I understand we should actually change it around 70,000 to be safe. Don't want to get stuck on the road. A few rare cases a stone gets cought in the belt and shortens its life.

All the Yamaha bikes have very reliable engines. I don't have a Road star, some buddys do, I know of no problems. Its a bike that has been around for a while. You don't hear much about cruisers with high mileage. My guess it is a hundred k engine. Like most others.

Roadstar newbie

I bought a 2000 Roadstar Silverado 1600 cc last Sept. with 52000km...the first thing I did was to put tires on it and when the dealer ran the VIN # ....there was a recall from Yamaha...a clutch/transmission part to be replaced ..that and another $150 and I got a rebuilt engine...good as new....It pays to run the VIN .

I know I had my 2000 Road Star recall done at 18,000 miles and have no trouble before or after. Don't forget to add a warrior oil pump gear if tranny recall has not been done. I have 34,000+ on mine now and have made it into a Ultra Star. I really like mine and I know of a few riders that have almost 200k on RS. One guy has over 300k on his. So If you take good care of it it will run a long time. The engine are a little noisey but they have lots of torque. I have had all makes and the only bike I have owned that compares is a Goldwing. I sold my 1985 Goldwing Limited with fuel injection and bought a Road Star. My Goldwing was a touring bike and did not have reverse. A pain to push around. I get about 47 mpg on my RS ultra. That is not bad for a stage 3 BAK kit, V&H longshots, ported intake and more with the ultra kit. I just added a Audiovox CCS-100 cruise control unit. I will be riding mine for a long time I hope.
Good luck and ride safe, Andy
