Found out the hard way that wrapping the exhaust is just bad juju.

I'm in the south Florida area. If anyone knows of a shop that could sell me one, that would rock. All the pipes I find on ebay are $400. Don't have that type of cash. Bike is a 98 vstar 650

Did you wrap the pipe, or was it already wrapped? I may be wrong but it appears it was previously wrapped to cover a preexisting hole since the wrap doesn't look as old as that hole is. Also ask in the vstar section ssr, you may luck out there.

I would try motorcycle salvage yards... lots of them around, just Google :)

The wrap will make your pipes run hotter, because it keeps the cooling air flow off them. It will get wet, from rain or dew, and hold the water against the pipes until you run it long enough to boil the water out. Seems to me the combination is a guaranteed rust generator.

I found a pipe that is for a 99 vstar 650. Is there a book or guide that I can look at that will tell me if it will fit? Mine is a 98.

I'm pretty sure they will fit but look online at any parts retailer and see if the part numbers for a 98 are the same as a 99

I've always liked the look of wrapped but don't want to ruin my exhaust. Vance and Hines sells a wrap but doesn't even recommend it for their pipes :)
