My bike has 28000 miles on it and just this year I have noticed some wobble in the steering. Is there an easy way to tighten up the front end without disassembling the entire front end? It looks like I need to remove the upper triple tree in order to have access to the nut that tightens it up. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Work has been slow so I don't have the money to take it to a dealership.

Yeah the bearings wear. There's alot of weight concentrated right on the tiny little round face of a couple of balls. Do you have a jack? The first thing you need to check for is ball dents in the bearing races (the part that the balls roll around on. Take the weight off the front end and press against the forks while rolling side to side. then repeat only pull out against the forks while going side to side. Check for signs of notchyness or clicking as it moves. If it has this you should replace the bearings.

If you have to replace them you can get better than stock at

allballsracing.com These bearings will be Tapered Roller Bearings, much more suitable to the weight of these bikes. The ball bearing units from Yamaha are cheap but you'll pay more for them.

Thanks, I found what I needed in the Sloan manual online. The bearings didn't look or feel bad just needed to tighten the front end a little. I didn't even tighten it a 1/4 of an inch but that is all it needed, no more wobble. I will replace the bearings next winter.
