Just started today, actually. Squeezing the stiff lever also will not return, leaving the front brakes engaged to a certain extent. I hear that brake problems are the main cause of motorcycle accidents, so.....

Before removing and cleaning the master cylinder, is there anything I should check before? There's been no damage to the front brake cable. Some say that it's corrosion collecting or a rusty return spring.

you could try bleeding the brake with fresh fluid

pull all the old fluid out of the reseviour with a turkey baster, fill it back up with new fluid, then bleed the fluid thru till it comes out clear at the brake caliper.

that might flush out some gunk in the brake line or either cylinder

worth a shot and only a few bucks compared to pulling the master cylinder apart.
