I am getting the helmet buffeting over 50 MPH. First thing Im going to do is get a set of the Bucks Lowers and try them. The stock windshield height hits me about right where I am just looking over the top of it.
Question: has anyone tried the Rifle replacment shields. And are the Bucks lowers as good as I have heard?

Bucks lowers

Tudelmun,

I put Bucks lowers on a couple years back because there was nothing else available. I am happy, They do relieve most of the buffeting behind the windshield.

My windshield is also about nose height. I look just over it. The air just hits the top of my helmet. I can wear a ball cap, if I am carefull about cross wind. I do prefer to look over the windshield rather than through it.

I believe Memphis Shades now make a set of lowers that mount on the fork tubes. Never heard of anyone using them.

I had mounted a set of V Star chrome lowers behind the rollers for the windshield. the worked good but when I installed an engine guard they hit so I changed to Bucks lowers.

What are you guys related to the jolly green giant?! I'm 5'10" and I'm looking straight through my w/s. Which v-star lowers fit the liner Dave? I like the look of the chrome ones but I can't find any that are made for the liners. If something else will fit i'll use it.

Lowers

HTMNKYLVE,

Actually none of Yamaha's lowers fit the Liner. I used the chrome lowers for the 1100 V Star. I installed them behind the rollers that hold the windshield. I used one existing hole and drilled one more in the lowers. They were a little farther from the forks on the Liner than on the V star so I added a thicker rubber pad to reduce vibration. They worked well until I installed engine guards. They hit the guard so I changed to Bucks lowers. I wonder if I had chosen a Lindy bar if they would have been OK? I would often see the sun reflect off them on signs and cars. Some of my buddies seemed to hesitate to ride in front of me. But over all I was happy.

The Liner engine makes a lot of heat. The Smaller Bucks lowers that allow some air to hit my legs are better in hot weather. Neither block air to the motor. I have a pair of leather soft lowers that snap on the engine guard in cold weather. They get to hot if the temperature gets above 70 deg. F.

I guess I'm a distant cousin? I'm 6'3". I needed a big bike to get away from it looking like I was on a bicycle.

Rifle

I have not tried a Rifle windshield but I see good comments about them.

HTMNKYLVE,
I am only an inch taller than you, we must have differant height windshields. There are three I believe. I do have a small riser that might allow me to sit up some.

Yet another question about windshields and buffeting.

I am taller and have the standard windshield on my strat which I think is the tallest of the three shields. I get helet buffeting to where at highway speeds it gets old after an hour or two.

With no shield, ZERO buffeting but at speed, the constant wind on my chest gets old. So, my master plan is that a shorter shield should get my head out of the buffeting of the tall shield while also getting the wind off my chest?

Anyone try this before I go buying a shorty? Sound like I am thinking right?

Thanks

I run the Bucks Lowers and a Rifle windshield on my strat and the buffeting is gone. I don't miss it. IT is also quieter riding and I can focus both eyes at the same time (grin). I recommend the investment.

OK, here's a wrench in the equation, has anyone been able to mount any type of lowers on the new Strat Deluxe yet? I love the bike, but do get the buffeting over 55mph too. Was wondering about adding lowers if that might help...

Just put a Rifle windshield (2 in. shorter) on my '08 Stratoliner and took first ride. My impressions are:
If you can already see over your stock windshield, buy a 21 1/2 inch tall model. The buffeting around my head with the 19 1/2 in. windshield is about the same as the stock screen. The stock height, I think, would pretty much eliminate the buffeting.
Even though the Rifle windshield is over 3 inches wider, you still catch a good breeze while riding. That's probably because there is a greater distance between you and the windshield on a Stratoliner vs., for example, a V-Star 650 or 1100.
The biggest difference with the Rifle vs. stock windshield was riding behind a tractor-trailer. The turbulence didn't feel as dirty as the stock shield. Didn't have that tugging back and forth feeling.
Bottom line: Worth the price to me. Just wish I had gone with the stock height.

Rifle Windshield

Well I bought the tallest windshield that Rifle makes for my Stratoliner. I got tired of the Buffeting. Right now I am running the Bucks Lowers and the Rifle windshield and it works good for my 6'3" frame. I know your suppose to look over the windshield but I had enough. It takes some getting use to but I can run any speed in comfort without any wind. It is hotter from the engine heat but I was to the point of stopping it or getting rid of the bike. It works for me!
