Just trying to get an idea of who might be partaking in the festivities this year. I'll be making the trip from Oregon. It's my first time to Sturgis so the madness could hook me or make me never want to return. We'll see... Any tips or places one just has to see at least once in their life from those who've been before?

Ditto on curiousity about this.

As a business owner/entrepreneur it's REALLY tough for me to get away, and doubly so given the distance to ride from Pennsylvania to there (hmmm. excuse to buy a trailer?)...

But I've always wanted to check out Sturgis and 75th anni seems a good one to hit... Have to juggle the expense (and even more importantly time) against the experience.

For those of you thinking about attending the 75th gig - I heard thru the grapevine that hotels/motels are doubling/tripling their rate for that weekend. I think I'll pass and maybe think about attending next year.

I haven't been there since 2010 but I'm sure that it hasn't changed too much. Places to see: Mt Rushmore, Devil's Tower(actually about 85 miles away in Wyoming but worth the trip), The Badlands, Needles Highway, Iron Mountain Road, Custer State Park, Spearfish Canyon, Crazy Horse Monument...all worth seeing. Maybe hit the casino in Deadwood. Make sure you go to downtown Sturgis and witness the craziness there...........Guaranteed you will see sites/people that you have never seen before.

Went there last month and I can honestly say I will never visit during a Sturgis event unless I'm there to get drunk, high, or stupid. I rather enjoyed Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Iron Mountain, Custer State Park and panning for gold without the misery of too much company. There's still plenty more to see and I'll grab them bit by bit during more peaceful times of the year. But, to those who go, I say have fun and ride safe. I wish I could share in the enthusiasm of the crowd. I just prefer it a bit more peaceful.

We rented a house waaaay back in September after the issues we had back in 2013 getting a place to stay. So 8 of us are heading up. 4 from Abilene on Saturday morning and the others from Emporia, KS. We have the entire week so we are stoked.
I'm not really interested in the downtown Sturgis thing but rather the rides I missed out on last time I was up.
Bike is finally ready for the 980 mile trip up. Seats, backrest, trunk, fairing with 600 watt audio, Hybrid V&H/HD exhaust, and hopefully by Friday my K&N filter.

Just painted the trunk and fairing a couple of weeks ago and word to the wise...if you plan on doing your own work (which isn't as hard as you think), go purchase a quality Graco-Sharpe 3000 HVLP sprayer before you start. It will save you a lot of elbow grease with wet sanding the clear to get rid of orange peel from splatter. the cheap sprayers don't lay down the paint as well as the Graco.
