Hi Folks,

Apologies in advance if this topic was already covered-I did a forum search but couldn't find anything...

Anyway, I was wondering if any of you use/have installed a tail light modulator? A buddy of mine installed one and it seems to attract attention-at least it attracted mine as I noticed it riding behind him ;~). Any opinions/recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I installed a pair of Hyper-lites next to my license plate, and I am thinking of installing the tail light modulator. The Hyper-lites are really annoying brake lights but do nothing for the running lights. Should probably do this while my bike is torn apart.

Thanks for the comments. Can anyone recommend a specific modulator or they all about the same?

I have this one on both of my bikes, they work well and the bulb is removable so when it burns out, you don't have to replace the entire unit (the one on my Honda VTX has been in there for two years and hasn't burned out yet). Quick and easy installation, just replace the bulb, no splicing or wiring modifications needed.

Tail blazer

The tail blazer sounds good. A flashing red light would actually be illegal but no one should complain about that. I have often thought about extra brake lights. Maybe a bullet light or two under the luggage rack. I have the Back Off LED license plate bracket. Not sure it is enough. Never look at it from behind on a sunny day.

A forward-facing flashing red light is illegal in every state -- a rear facing and flashing brake light is legal.

I also just came across this Turn Signal Conversion Kit. I may do both the Tail Blazer and the conversion kit! The same company also sells a similar plug-in Headlight Modulator which I will also consider. They have some sort of package deal where you buy both the headlight and tail light modulators at the same time and save a few bucks.

Modulator

I installed a brake light modulator on my bike last year. It only works when the brake light is activated. I think I got it from Dennis Kirk. It's called the "Backoff"(about $35).
It only took about 20-30 minutes to install. You have to make sure the surface is real clean where you're going to put it.

Hyper Lites & Kisan Tailblazer

I am running the Kisan Tailblazer in the stock tail light and also have the hyper lites mounted on the license frame. I am running the hyper lites with the run/brake light option. I have been approached by several other riders and cops and they all want to know where they can get them. My cop friend is going to get some for his rk police bike. I ride an 09 Silverado

Tail Light Modulator

I kept doing eBay searches for a modulator and finally bout a used one that had a Harley logo on it. I also bought some small red LED bullet lights and replaced the license plate holders with them, I wired the tail light and the LEDs to the modulator and they worked great. Every bit of extra notice you can bring helps. I have a 2003 V-Star 1100 Classic. The modular is too big to fit behind the license plate. If you remove the gas tank and module cover, there is a small box shaped indent that is an almost perfect fit for the modulator.

Affordable Headlight Modulator

Two more Cents: I recently bought and installed a modulator on my 09 950 from www.jcwhitney.com. Works great and and super easy to install, if I can do it then anyone can. It's only $36.00 compared to $100.00 ones I priced before.

One frustrating thing though; searched for an affordable switch to activate and deactivate it but only found super expensive ones or too small to fit my 1'' handble bars. Solution: Spliced into High Beam wire, borrowed one of those wire thingies to find where juice was flowing to (first find which one it is-mine is a yellow wire) and Walla it's done. :\
