I bit the bullet today and took my bike to the only Yamaha dealer in town and explained to him about the high idleing and some valve noise. The TPS checked out ok and the valve noise was normal and all clearences were with in speck, but the throttle cable was too tight and was causing my high idle. The popping and back firing he said was normal and I would get used to it, but I think maybe later on I might consider the AIS removal thing. I under stand that doing this will elliminate this problem? After all was said and done the dealer charged me for 1 hour labour [ $80 bucks ] and my bike idles like it should.

Good for you..... good to know it wasn't a major issue, and yes the AIS removal is an easy thing and will remove the popping

update

My last 2 bikes were always filled with preimium except when it was not available, and the difference was like night and day. Better performance, better throttle response, and more miles per tank with the premium gas. I just started using Sea Foam today so I will try it for a couple of tanks and see if that helps, if it does not help with the popping then I will try a tank of regular gas. The weather is supposed to be sunny tomorrow so it sounds like a full day of cruising the country roads.:D

I run two tanks of regular and then one tank of premium in mine just to keep things in check...these bike are factory tuned to run on 87, with the jet kit and mods I see a bit of gain running the 92, not a huge difference but minor to say the least....It's just my way of saying thank you to my ride for being so dependable....Seafoam is a great product, however be careful about constant use, any high detergent product (not really sure how detergentlike Seafoam is) can be terrible to carb & fuel injection seals, gaskets and such....I always buy gas at a Shell or a BP station and I look if I have to get it elsewhere to make sure about the "Detergent" in fuel....some can be very high and cause damage.
