Okay, maybe a dumb question but...

On my old V Star 1100, there was proper starting procedure to avoid mucking up the starter clutch. Put shortly, hold the starter button in until the engine is fully engaged/running.

On my '07 VS 1300, the manual says to not crank more than 10 seconds. With fuel injection and all, no choke, etc. it seems to start more... well... readily. But was that starter clutch somehow redesigned? Am I still risking a not-fun, not-cheap repair if I don't keep that starter button pushed down until everything's going properly?

??

My 1300 starts within a second after pressing the button. Therefore, it's just a momentary press of the start button until I hear the engine start. Holding the switch for more than a couple seconds should never be necessary. If it doesn't start after a couple tries there is a problem somewhere. Time for troubleshooting. I'm not aware of any similar starter problems on the 1300 or other fuel injected models. Augie
