Hi, We already had discussed about the starting problem of my V star 950. Now I am trying to trouble shoot the problem. So starting circuit has switch, battery, starter relay n starter motor. I don't know if am missing anything. But my guess is that my starter relay or starter motor is bad. Starter motor is easy to locate but I can't find starter relay.. If any body can help so I can look if its corroded or melted/bad connections...

The starter relay is mounted on the right hand side of the battery. It will have two fuses mounted on top and a large bolt next to each fuse. The positive battery wire goes straight to the relay.

The two bolts only hold the wire from the battery and the wire to the starter to the relay.
I don't remember anything attaching it, just a rubber hole that slides onto a metal post. Or something like that.

Actually, wast this high amp draw when starting hot? The starting relay should not be the issue, if the amp draws where checked after the relay (at the starter). If it was the problem, the ampdraws would have been low, and the voltage would be near 0.

I had checked the starter relay and the wire from relay to starter motor. It seems OK. Next week I will check the starter motor, before that I have to order O rings for motor.
patrickdk what you think can it be the voltage regulator? Sometimes my horn don't work, I mean it works but once out of two three tries.

The voltage regulator only handles that you maintain <14.8volts when the bike is running.
If you start the bike with a voltmeter attached somewhere, and then rev the bike up to around 4krpm, it should stay stable <15v. If it goes >15v you need a new regulator. This should have no impact at all when starting the bike, as there is no power being generated yet.

The horn? no, nothing should affect it either way. Most likely the contacts in the handle button is dirty and needs a cleaning. Easy way to be sure is to remove the horn, and plug your voltmeter into those wires. Then press the horn switch a few times and see what voltage you get, it should be a nice >12v and hold solid. If you can test the voltage on the horn with the horn still attached that would be better.

If it doesnt hold solid or doesn't register, you switch needs to be cleaned, or check all the wires are making good connections. If it's all good, then likely the horn is bad.
