V-Star Classic 2007 High speed problems

Recently my bike started "choking" at higher speeds (>80mph) or when applying more throttle. Also, it's taking too much fuel. I was driving with my friend, who has 2004 V-Star of the same engine, mine used 12l of fuel and his only 9l for the same distance and same speeds.
What could be a cause of this? I change oil regularly and have cleaned air filter, but it didn't help.

650? 1100? Exact carb set up?

1100. Found the problem. It looks like there was too much oil and it splashed on an air filter. Removed some oil, changed the filter and it works fine again.

the crankcase vents into the airbox if you put to much oil in it you will get a puddle in the housing. keep the oil level closer to the lower line in the site glass.

Is it enough to remove some oil, clean the housing and change an air filter, or do I need some extensive cleaning as well?
