Looking good. A razor blade works fine for trimming tape, it's the Bowie knife over kill? Are you going to clear coat? Adds a nice protective finish.
I did grow up in Texas you know. One should always have a good sized nice knife, there might be cheese cake...

I am going to clear coat it but after the tire swap and I take care of any touch up needed.

Swapped the front wheel bearings awhile ago. Finally had a chance to ride all of 7 miles today to check my work. Coasted downhill with the engine off. No chirping, grinding, clicking, or clacking. No brakes grinding, no ozone smell. I think I did ok, but I'll do some riding close to home before I go too far afield on it.

After saying i would never do it again i put a new tube in my front tire. I couldn't get it done until september so i did it myself. I was scared when i aired it up and air leaked out around the valve stem. Then i remembered i had to get all of the air out between the tube and tire. It is a tubeless tire and the air between the tire and tube had to come out. We'll see how i did tomorrow. Just have to torque the axle and pinch bolt tomorrow.

Baby Huey got new shoes today. I'm getting too old to horse a big machine around fighting big tires while it teeter-totters on that jack. And worse yet, the slow drop speed quit working a few months ago and the down speed is now "all the way" and "right now". Gonna have to do something about that soon.

I'm back at it again. Time to retape, do touch up and apply the third and final coat of black.
Next will be 3 coat if clear.

Looking good. After you get done, can you come down and show me how to do mine? I won't get in your way, I'll watch intently from my easy chair.

This is the makeshift jig I set up to hold the wheel while I painted.

I started the day planning to install my new exhaust on the Rocket III. But it said I was going to fast and should do something else.
My first job was to get the studs out of the header flange that came off the bike.

I have hit the nuts with PB Blaster for several days now. I figures using the old double nut trick opposite would work. I was wrong.

A fellow on the R3 forum told me I need to cut off the dime on the nuts, that was the issue.

I got the dome off the first one and soaked it in PB Blaster to no avail.

The second and subsequent dimes all revealed a cake if rust.

I soaked them all and after a spell, decided these studs are done. I had to ider new studs as the dealership doesn't have the money in stock.
So I guess I won't be riding this weekend after all

Looking at the amount of rust, cutting off was going to be the only way. Good job on getting it done.

It's not done by a long shot brother. Those nuts won't budge. And by the amount of rust, I figure they are not worth saving.

I've ordered new studs and nuts, be about a week before I can proceed. In the mean time, I need to reassemble the rear wheel and mount it.
First I need to clean the threads on the brake disk screws and the hole they came out of.

I test fit all screws and then put the disk in place. I used medium locktite.

Always use a magnetic dish for the small bits

Elie is always helpful.

Finally have the back wheel on, I think...

Interesting that the swing are isn't totally boxed, most bikes are. Triumph does things a little different. Thanks for the pictures. Noticed the foam pad for the knees. :ROFLMAO:

@lesblank yep, the knees need all the help they can get. And that wheel would not have gone on if I hadn't taken lots of pictures during the uninstall process.

Elie looks like an energetic helper. I bet you were hiding treats there. I wouldn't part with my magnetic dish.
