Whats the best way to remove AIS

Hi everybody,
I am a new owner of a used 1100. Love it so far. It has pipes and bars and stage III jets. The AIS has been disabled by putting stoppers in the hoses at the valve. The tube from the front cylinder has a hole in the bottom of it at the turn around the rear cylinder. It puffs out dirty gases that nasty up my chrome case.

Question: do I need to replace this tube or can I remove them both and plug the hole in the cylinders with a chrome plug?

Question: will I have a problem passing emissions with the AIS disconnected?

Thanks in advance guys.

First of all what year is your bike? Do you get sniffed at inspection? Mine here in TX is just a simple safety incpection. The rusting out of the tubes is common to the plugging the hoses, usually they are looped together. This is usually a temporary method. I have mine removed at the heads and chrome plugs installed. LOL I know you can't see them without standing on your head, but I like em that way. The way I look at it remove it completely and save the parts and if you have to go back you can. Here is a link to the removal instructions.

Baron's kit is the only plugs I can find now, from various vendors, or you can use spent .45 caliber brass and some JB Weld. Of the two I'd go with the plugs the brass is kinda thin IMO. Mine are from Night Sky Customs, out of business I think.

I used that same method (Vice grip slide hammer)and some circuit cool to freeze/shrink the elbow came out real easy.

Thanks guys, thats just the info I needed. What elbow are you talking about that you have to pull out with a slide hammer? Does this wreck the part? I do need to have the bike sniffed at inspection. How does this part help reduce emissions?

ps: 2003 custom

The Elbow is swedged into the head, where the metal tubes end there is a short rubber tube connecting to a metal elbow. These Elbows are removed by the slide hammer and the subsequent holes filled with plugs. Have you passed inspection with the AIS disconnected already? The AIS (Air Induction System) is used to inject air, via a small pump, into the exhaust stream to burn remaining unburnt gas in the exhaust stream to clean up emissions.

Thanks fulltilt, I hooked it back up to pass emissions. It passed with flying colors. Do you think it would pass without the system? I would really like to take it off permanently.

When's it due for inspection? Try to pass it with it disconnected. I really like the clean look without all the extra tubes.
