Fresh snow and a full moon....What could make my trip in to work this morning more fun? A guy passed me going about 90. Hit some ice on an overpass..Left side of car into concrete barrier...Shot across 3 lanes of traffic somehow missing 2 semi trucks. Good thing for this idiot was the drivers of the trucks did a fantastic job of not hitting him but also safely avoiding other traffic. I thought I was going to witness my first traffic fatality. But like every other moron...he kept going...

There is a certain number of people who don't think they have to slow down on snow packed roads. Oddly enough, in my travels as a long haul trucker well over half of the vehicles I saw in the ditches during snowstorms were 4x4s. Sure, they get more traction in snow. Put my Ram in four wheel drive and I could pull away in a foot of snow like it was bare pavement. But four wheel drive does nothing when you hit the brakes or go into a slide on ice packed roads. It gives you a false sense of security until that happens and you realize you're just along for the ride, like you would be in a car.

my 1975 Ariens snowblower started right up this morning
and made quick work of 6" of wet snow

I was pushing it like a lawn mower, leaning over the grips
then I remembered "WTH am I doing?!"

stood up straight, one finger on the right grip to steer - goes by itself hands free all the way down the driveway!

someday I will need a new Ariens
but after 44 years... not yet!

Thats not mine, but close enoughf

THIS IS A GOOD TIME to remind everyone

that every winter people in good health shovel out the wet snow in the driveway
go inside to warm up
sit in the Lazy Boy recliner or kitchen chair
and drop dead from a heart attack, before they hit the floor

get a snow blower
pay a plow
your life is worth more than a few hundred $$$

I think I've posted this before but is relevant as we are in for a hard freeze in Houston tonight.

That is exactly like the one i got from my brother that got it from his wife's grandpa. He gave it to me when he moved to Kentucky. After years the auger gear box broke. I had an old craftsman also. Finally i went out and bought the big one. wind chill got down below zero today.
