I have a 1998 V-Star Custom 650. Does anyone have suggestions on what front and rear tires to put on my bike, or should I stick with OEM BridgeStone?

Metzler? I am unfamiliar with that brand. What country are they from? Can I find them locally around Toronto or purchase them online?

Another question: I've noticed that my last tire that I bought new was already 5 years old. What opinions do people have about what the max age a new tire should be?

max age on tires all depends on how aggressive you ride on them.
the metzler me 880 marathons can be found on multiple websites.

i have over 1500 miles of aggressive riding on mine and still notice NO wear at all. trust me, these tires and v star customs are meant to be!

I also had Metzler front and rear on my 650. These are wonderful tires, very long life as well. I got mine from dealer with free install and full warranty. I believe it just a bit more expensive getting them from online store and have someone installed them.

I do plan to install Metzler on my 950 again when the time come.

Thanks for the info, I'd never heard of Metzler before, but now that you've brought it to my attention everyone I know says they are a really good brand. Yes they are a bit more expensive, locally $180 vs the stock Bridgestone at $120, but I will be considering them.

don't consider them, buy them! you will not regret it! there is no comparison between oem tires and the marathon 880"s!
