Hi Everyone,

Have a 2000 XVS650A. Had missed one thing when bought it - the exhaust cross link tube was cut and sealed by some previous owner.

I have no idea what effect this brings to my bike. First season it was running average, but it is my first bike, so have no experience. But next winter cleaned carbs completely and replaced many parts to new from Yamaha. Bike starts and runs well cold and hot, but rear cylinder and pipe get extremely hot very fast running on idle or not.

All jets are 100% stock, pilot screws at 2.5 turns, synchronization is done, idle rpm is on 1100.

Overall feeling is that bike runs lean. Could be this due to the cross link tube missing? What it does? Adds back pressure to cylinders? If yes, then it is definitely runs lean.

My current idea is to set pilots to 3.5 turns, and needle to +1 position to sharp edge from middle position, not touching pilot jet and main jet at first.

What can you recommend?
Can I restore this connection by welding back two pieces?

The cross pipe helps scavenge the exhaust by pulsing the exhaust. It helps down low rpm torque but really only a small amount. It's more for a noise cancelation on bikes. I would just back out the PMS screws a bit and call it done.
Thanks. Turned both PMS from 2.5 to 3.5 turns.

But what about rear cylinder and rear exhaust getting very hot x10 times in comparison with front side? Even when bike is standing.
