The Yamaha Star Venture comes with a heated low profile backrest. This is the first motorcycle I have ever bought where the seat is comfortable and I did not replace it, my back has no issues at all.

I did opt to purchase the heated tall Yamaha backrest and installed it, the tall backrest will give more support up to the lower back than does the low profile stock backrest.

I have always installed a backrest on all my other motorcycles but I have to say this Yamaha accessory heated tall backrest works very well at supporting the back. No it does not reach your middle back like the aftermarket solutions do and that everyone is used to seeing and using.

I am reaching 18 months of ownership of this Yamaha Star Venture Transcontinental and I have not had one issue with any back pain on this motorcycle.

My 1989 Honda Goldwing GL1500 I had to have a backrest for back pain. My 2013 Victory Cross Country Tour I had to have a backrest for back pain and my 2016 Harley Davidson Ultra Limited I had to have a backrest for back pain.

While everyone is different I suspect that most people would be satisfied with the Yamaha heated tall backrest as not only does it provide very good lower back support but you get the added benefit of it being heated.

Most aftermarket backrests refuse to even consider adding heat and many aftermarket back rests require you to cut the seat covering and they give you a hard plastic piece that sticks to the seat where you had to cut it for the bracket to go through the seat. I have never been comfortable cutting the seat covering so I always found solutions that did not require cutting the seat.

If you go with a Utopia backrest you will have to cut through your heated seat and then I believe their bracket attaches to the plastic seat pan, not the best solution or strongest if you ask me and you lose the heated backrest function.

Here are two photos of my Yamaha backrest, the tall heated backrest is installed and the low profile heated backrest is shown for comparison.

The Yamaha backrest will also adjust forward and back three different positions, I keep mine all the way back. The photos show the difference in the two Yamaha backrests.

The way Yamaha designed these backrests allows for more passenger room unlike all the aftermarket backrests that take up a lot of passenger room. My wife loves all the room this Yamaha design provides her on the passenger seat.

Here are four photos showing the position of the backrest at each of the three adjustment points, the first photo shows the strap you pull to adjust the backrest, this releases to lock so the backrest will slide. The second photo shows the backrest all the way back, the third photo shows the backrest in the middle position and the fourth photo shows the backrest in the full extended position.

...was just pokin' around the intertron looking for how much that there "tall backrest" might run me. Most places were outta stock. Finally found one at a good price. Went ahead and sprung for it, as I am definitely a backrest kind of guy. Guess my decision is made. One SVTC for me, please.

I believe I would like the OEM tall better than my Utopia but the wife LOVES the pouch on the Utopia so that sealed it for me. Hurry up and get the SVTC so you may one day be the "RANDOM SVTC" that beats you in mileage. :)

Also bought the billet toe and heel shifters today. Can’t abide toe shifting. I am now about $550.00 into a bike that I do not own. Brilliant! Hopefully there isn’t some Arabian oil prince who yesterday took a shine to the SVTC and buys them all before I can swoop in and get a deal.

Anybody looking for a full or half cover? Also the 3 piece luggage set if anybody interested. I didnt like the tall heated backrest and settled on adding a regular backrest as the heated part wasnt important to me.

The tall Yamaha OEM backrest was the first mod I made to my Venture as I always like to add a backrest to a bike I intend to tour on. I was a little apprehensive before buying it as it does not come up very high, but I have found that it does offer adequate support on long rides. The Utopia is more the type I'm used to as I had one similar to it on my previous generation Royal Star Venture, but I didn't want to lose the heated back feature of the tall OEM rest. And I like the overall look of the Yamaha tall rest as well. I know Corbin makes a full replacement seat and pillion for the new Venture ($1,500), but really the stock seat is quite comfy.

Thank you for this article! Is this beautiful heated backrest able to fit on all Star Venture models or is there some limitations? Thank you!

Reviving an old thread, could I talk someone that has the OEM tall heated backrest into seeing if there is a part # on it or from your option purchase paperwork? I need 1 for my back and don’t want to go aftermarket and would pay a premium just to have 1 but can’t for the life of me find a part # and have spoken to a few reputable parts guys and they can’t either.

Thanks in advance!![/QUOTE]

Thanks Bartives, I was lucky, a very nice venture rider from another state reached out to me and I was able to purchase his OEM tall heated backrest in the box!!! We had a nice, long and fun talk about the SVTC and our experiences with them. Can’t wait to try it.
