As the title states, I am not able to get the bike started. I have scoured the internet for answers and came across some valuable information. However not to solve my problem.

Here is what I have done so far. About a month ago, Bike had a hard time starting in morning before work. However it did start and I had a nice ride to work. At lunch I had same issue, bike would not start. I checked all basic troubleshooting and still could not get it to start. So I called a tow truck to bring her home.

Got my trusty battery tester out and battery checked out fine at 11.7 volts. So I hooked up to charge overnight. In the morning still no luck. All I would hear is a clicking noise. I would press the starter then “Click Click Click“ So I checked all fuses and replaced all of them just to be safe, Replaced the solenoid. Removed, cleaned and tested starter motor. hooked everything back up went to crank the bike and again, click click click. (What The ****) So I said screw it lets try jumping the bike, it could not be that simple. Sure enough she starts right up and purrs real nice. Okay so I replaced the battery, bike started right up. I put in fresh oil, filter and air filter and went for a light and easy ride for a couple hours and put the bike up. She ran great for a week and then other day would not start. She would crank nicely however will not turn over. I checked battery and all wires, fuses, etc. All good. No more clicking just a cranking noise and then nothing. Scoured the internet again and made sure it had fuel and fuel was on. Still nothing. So I replaced the spark plugs thinking I am not getting any spark. That brings us to tonight. I went to start her up and still the same cranking noise but no ignition.

Here is the thing. I dropped her into first gear pulled the clutch and hit the starter. She lurched forward a couple of feet and then stopped. I backed up and repeated the same actions however this time holding the starter. She lurched again as if trying to go but not catching. At this point I am at a loss and here looking for help.

Hey y'all! I hope you all are being safe in these trying times.

So as it turned out it was the Stator Assy. Damn thing looked like it was sitting in a fire. Half of it was black like coal. Anyways I ordered a new part and got it installed. Bike now runs like new.

I appreciate all the help and trouble shooting and look forward to seeing some of y'all on the road!

Ride Safe!

Good Afternoon all,

So I just went ahead and did the above. Although the Ignition module looked good per visual inspection. It is tucked behind the battery and all the wiring looks near new for a 7 year old bike. Grandfather is checking it out as well now doing some research into it before we take it to the shop and let a pro look at it.

It is most definitely just a spark issue. Everything else checks out. Will be in touch. Thank you again for all the help and support.

Opps, I missed your link. Guess I'm getting slow and forgetful in my old age. There's been a couple times someone else posts a question, KCW and I answer at the same time, he's always first, types and thinks faster, I guess.

^:rolleyes: I sent a link to that one earlier. I would make some comment about great minds thinking alike but I just cant do that...You and KCW are way ahead of me. I know currently I am out of my lane... I really hope he gets it going because his user name hits home with me...I lost my mom and sister to cancer! I am pulling for a win for him!

Here's a pretty good video that might help narrow down the issue.

Yeah it has been tough. I have a inline spark tester and I am getting nothing from it. Also the plugs And the plug caps are new.

By the kill switch, are you talking about the red switch that I have to flick down before I even begin anything else. Lol yeah I checked that as well.

I tried everything y’all have suggested and that I could think of minus a push start. Only problem with the push start is I live in the desert and everything near me is flat. even my driveway.

I am trying to save the money from the shop but at this point it has to be something I am overlooking.

Thank you all for the responses. I will look it over once more this weekend and get back to you.

if you have no spark that is the problem

its not the starter or the battery (you replaced it) or the fuel or bad gas

the spark is required - you need to find out which component in the ignition system has failed

anywhere from fouled plugs, bad spark plug wires, the ignition module, the pickup that tells the ignition when to fire, the governer cuttoff, or the switch/wire/connector/pin that sends power to the ignition module

posting a video of the engine cranking on the starter wont help, you know you have no spark

Dang dude you have had a rough time with it...At this point it is either something real simple that has been overlooked or something bad..I would jump out the side stand switch and the kill switch just to rule them out. Plus as many have suggested throw that spark tester on while its dark so you can see for sure if you are generating spark. Good Luck!

I had a similar situation on my son's Kawasaki 4 wheeler
When you got the electric start, no spark.
When you use the pull start, it started.
Would start fine warm with electric start but cold it would not.
It was the CDI box.(igniter)

go get one of those inline spark testers and see if you have a spark or not

the bike should be running, its not - therefore something you are assuming is good has failed

it could be the plug wires, or the connector on the end

it could be the plugs themselves

until you see a spark, you dont know if you have a spark

the other thing you might need to check is the compression

if your timing chain is laying on the bottom of the crankcase your valves are not moving, and you have no compression

Okay y’all. So I tested the voltage regulator and it checked out right where it should be. At this point I do not expect it could be anything else electrical. I should be getting a spark, but for some reason it just is not firing.

Unless there is a possibility where the meter is getting a false reading on the components.

Well if your getting readings that all the electronics are good the only other thing I can think of is the ign. fuse or the plugs are over gaped or bad , I dont recall you did put new plugs in it right ? But for me this would be the time I'd take it to a shop and tell them everything you've done so far , maybe it's something being overlooked. Sorry our advice didn't help.

Yes it is. Sorry for last replies i was at wok and the computers suck. I couldn't change edit or anthing else. What i was getting at is the electrical was getting goofy from low voltage. That is what it was doing just before the voltage was too low to fire the bike. I am seeing that the 650 and 1100 are a lot more different than i would have thought.
