Ok. I'll try again tomorrow. But to clarify what you are saying. Center button, emergency button 3x, enter Original code.....then repeat this step with the original code? Then lock unlock 3x and the new key fob should light up? No need to enter the new fob's 6 digit code?

It IS a slightly confusing process - but I just did it with my partzilla key fob this morning and it was a success. Just follow the steps listed in the very first message of this post...or read and follow the directions from the service manual listed later in this post and you will make it. No....you do NOT repeat the original code and No, you do not need to program the new key code...following your specific quote here: Center button, emergency button 3x, enter original code and then while the smart key indicator light (on the dash) is on hit the lock, unlock buttons on the tank 3 times (total of 6 hits), and then the little tiny red indicator on the fob itself will light up for 10 seconds...while it is on just hit either the lock or unlock buttons and you are done...if the key fob was on...I honestly have a hard time telling whether it is on or not - my kids say that it makes a beep but my ears are so bad that I can't hear it...but I tried it once one way and it didn't work, tried it again the other way and it worked just fine. Good luck! I had to read the steps about 10 times...I'd get somewhere, forget the next step while a light was flashing, read the book again and by then had to start over but eventually I got so good at the first 10 steps that I eventually made it...while hopping on one leg, just for good luck... :)

Don't forget to click your heels together twice and spin around 3 times before you get started. It is a weird and cumbersome process for sure. You would have thought Yamaha could have made it a whole lot simpler if you have a current activated FOB.

One last thing....did the Eluder come with a spare physical key that I could pair with the new spare fob? I had thought it did but now don't see it anywhere.

Well I finally bought a spare fob now that my bike is back with me and hopefully for awhile.
I read some horror stories about folks losing the fob and the cost to get the unit replaced.
After I heard about someone dropped their and didn’t noticed and another vehicle road over it the fob needed to be replaced so the whole unit needed to be replaced.
I guess I didn’t really realize how vulnerable the fob really was.
Anyway, I wanted to make sure I need to use the card that came with the new fob that has a different code.
See picture. This looks like the card that came with the original fob and wasn’t sure what this will be needed for after the new fob is registered or needed at all.
Did anyone else have this card?
Before I attempted this new fob registration I thought I would ask, also is there any risk in deleting the original key and getting locked out…
Sorry if this was mentioned before.

Yes, you'll need the new keycode to program the bike to recognize that new FOB. Then the bike will recognize either one of them.

I kept both of my cards, just so I'd be sure to have the keycode. I also took pictures of them and documented them in my SVTC spreadsheet that I keep all my maintenance, mileage and parts list in. Once you have both FOBs programmed either code will work if you have to do the manual override business (in case of low battery or other temporary situation). Also, I think you'll need the original keycode in case you lose/damage your physical key and need a new one cut to have key access to your trunk and bags.

Also, once programmed, you can use either code to access the emergency start function.

Thanks everyone after a few tries then re-reading the posts, a few more tries I got the fob (smart key) registered to the bike.
All is good.

Haha, don't feel like the lone stranger.....I don't remember how many tries it took me, but I promise it wasn't the first or second....LOL

@AlanRides thanks…
Well I went by the service manual and the important part is the step to follow the emergency start procedure up until all code numbers are entered, the service manual doesn’t really point this out well. I kept stopping at step six for the emergency procedure and not entering the codes in step seven.
Anyway I came back to this forum remember there was more to this from what I remember so the forum helped me out…..
Thank you and everyone that posted their comments.
However after all this I realized I didn’t really need to buy a second smart key it seems if you have the code for the emergency procedure you can add a new smart key at any time…
Oh well now I have two, maybe great for resale.

I searched on the forum and on the internet and couldn't find correct, clear instructions for adding another smart-key so:

First of all, turn off the ORIGINAL smart key by holding the second silver button on the remote... this turns the smart key off.
Follow the instructions in the manual for Emergency start... push the main starting button once (Middle of the handle bars!) and then push the emergency button inside the right pannier, 3 times.
You'll then need the number from the ORIGINAL smart key.
Push the unlock button on the tank, holding it until the flashing icon flashes "spelling" out the ID number for your original key... Let go of the unlock button when the number of flashes matches the first number. Then hold again until the flashes meets the second number on your original key and so on.
When you have entered the numbers correctly in order, the orange emergency unlock light on the dash will stay lit. If it flashes fast you didn't enter the number correctly.
(Start again... pressing the main start button and the pannier button 3 times.)
You can now start to enter the program for the NEW smart key.
To do this, whilst the emergency light is lit (you have 10 seconds!), press the lock button then the unlock button on the tank... do this 3 times.
You will then see the small red light on the NEW remote is lit up... Press either button on the NEW remote until the bike responds.

You've now programmed the new remote.

If you want to use the other remote... push the second silver button on the remote for several seconds. This turns the remote off. To turn the other remote on, push the second silver button several times until the bike responds.
You cannot have both remotes operating at the same time.
One needs to be on, the other needs to be off!
I just got a spare smart key and am super thankful you added this but got damn I think I’d rather pay for someone else to do it for me!

LOL, next time you're down towards Houston holler me up and I'll do it for you......it's easier with 2 people, one reading the instructions and calling out numbers while the other one punches the buttons on the tank.... :) ;)

Thought I'd add in my experience with programming a new fob. I couldn't get the new fob to light up after inputting the code and lock unlock sequence. Turns out the new fob was turned off from the factory. I did remove and replace the battery once however that didn't make any difference. Once I held the unlock button till LED flash it worked the next attempt.

Good news is I'm very proficient at the emergency start procedure. 😄

Worked like a charm for me. The service manual doesn't clearly give all the steps like you do!
